What a Roof Rack Opens Up
Fitting a roof rack or platform to your vehicle is the ultimate load carrying solution for anyone who needs more space. Instead of cramming everything into the tub or the back seat, a roof rack gives you a dedicated area on top of the car for bulky, long or awkward items that do not fit anywhere else. Think of it as an extension of your vehicle’s carrying capacity that opens up without compromise.
For tradies, that usually means ladders, lengths of timber, conduit, pipes and other materials that are too long for the tub. A tradesman rack keeps those items secure up top and frees up the tray for toolboxes, equipment and everything else that needs to travel with you. If you are running a canopy on your ute, a roof rack on top of the canopy gives you even more carrying capacity without sacrificing any enclosed storage space below.
For tourers and campers, a roof platform is the foundation for a proper travel setup. You can mount a rooftop tent, an awning, recovery boards, a shovel, jerry cans and a roof box on a flat platform and still have room in the tub for the rest of your gear. Tie-down straps and ring bolts keep everything secure, and the flat deck is versatile enough to handle different camping accessories and load configurations on every trip. Having the heavy or bulky items up top keeps the tub organised and makes packing and unpacking much easier.
Even for everyday use, a roof rack opens up options. Bikes, kayaks, surfboards, extra luggage for a family trip or oversized items that would not normally fit in the vehicle all have a place on the roof. It is one of those upgrades that you find more uses for the longer you have it.
Product Types in the Range
We carry several different roof rack and platform styles depending on how you plan to use the setup and what vehicle you are fitting it to.
Roof platforms with backbone are the core of the range and cover the most vehicles. These are flat aluminium decks that mount to the roof using a backbone rail system designed for a specific make and model. The backbone sits along the length of the roof and the platform bolts onto it, giving you a solid, stable base that spreads the load evenly. The aluminium construction is tough enough to withstand heavy loads, corrugated roads and harsh weather without flexing or losing durability over time. This is the most popular option for ute and SUV owners who want a clean, low-profile platform for serious carrying capacity. We stock these for the Toyota Hilux (N70 and N80), LandCruiser 79 Series (single and double cab), LandCruiser 76, LandCruiser 200, Prado 120, Prado 150, Prado 250, Fortuner, Ford Ranger (PX and Next Gen in both standard and heavy duty), Ford Everest, Isuzu D-MAX, Isuzu MU-X (both generations), Mitsubishi Triton (ML/MN, MQ/MR and 2023 onwards), Nissan Navara D23, Nissan Patrol (MQ, GQ and GU), Volkswagen Amarok, GWM Cannon, GWM Cannon Alpha, GWM Tank 300, Kia Tasman, BYD Shark 6 and Suzuki Jimny.
Cage basket platforms add raised edges around the platform, which helps keep cargo contained and prevents items from sliding off during transit. These are a good option if you regularly carry loose or smaller items on the roof and want the added security of a lip around the edges. We stock cage baskets in several sizes including 1350x1250mm, 1850x1050mm, 1850x1250mm and 2200x1250mm, plus vehicle-specific options for the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series and a universal cage basket that fits LandCruiser, Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero and Land Rover Discovery models from the 1980s and 1990s.
Tradesman roof racks are built specifically for trade use. These are typically taller, with raised mounting brackets that create space between the roof and the rack for loading ladders and long materials from the side. We stock tradesman racks in universal sizes like the 1350x1250mm, plus vehicle-specific options for the Toyota Hilux N80, Ford Ranger (2012-2021) and Isuzu D-MAX (2012-2020). The Toyota Hiace has its own dedicated tradesman racks in a 2400x1464mm size with 150mm, 250mm and 400mm raised mounting bracket options, which gives commercial van owners the flexibility to set the rack height based on what they are carrying.
Flat universal platforms are not tied to a specific vehicle. These come in sizes like 1250x1250mm (in both solid and mesh deck options), 2200x1250mm and 2200x1395mm. If your vehicle is not in our vehicle-specific range or you want a platform for a trailer, camper or custom build, these universal options give you a quality aluminium deck that can be mounted with universal brackets.
Accessories round out the category. We stock 8-piece ring bolt kits for securing cargo, wind deflectors in 1250mm and 1425mm sizes to reduce drag and noise at highway speeds, aluminium side rails, universal rain gutter mount bracket sets, and a heavy duty canopy roof rack for mounting on top of a ute canopy.

Fitment and Ordering
How a roof rack mounts depends on the product type and your vehicle. Vehicle-specific platforms with backbone systems bolt onto designated points on the roof, usually using existing mounting locations or rain gutter channels. Tradesman racks for the Hiace use raised mounting brackets, and universal platforms can be fitted using the rain gutter mount bracket sets we stock.
Most roof racks can be installed at home with basic hand tools. The backbone systems are designed for a straightforward bolt-on process, and each kit includes the hardware you need. For heavier or full-length platforms, having a second person to help lift the rack into position makes the job easier and safer.
All roof racks and platforms ship Australia-wide with free delivery to major metro postcodes. Larger items are packed carefully to ensure they arrive in good condition. Pickup is available from our Bayswater warehouse if you are in Melbourne. If you are not sure which rack or platform is the right solution for your vehicle, contact our team and we will help you find the best fit.
