Snorkels

4x4 snorkel kits designed to raise the air intake on your ute or wagon, keeping dust, water and debris out of the engine. Our range covers Toyota Hilux, LandCruiser 79 Series, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-MAX, Mitsubishi Triton and Suzuki Jimny across a wide span of year ranges.

What a Snorkel Actually Does for Your Vehicle

A car snorkel moves your engine’s air intake from its factory position down near the hood up to an elevated position near the roofline. That one change has a few practical effects that matter for anyone driving in Australian conditions.

The most obvious benefit is protection during deep water crossings. If water gets drawn into your engine through the standard low-mounted intake, the result is typically water ingestion, which can hydrolock and destroy an engine in seconds. With a raised snorkel intake, you get a much higher safe wading depth and significantly reduce the risk of water entering the system. Whether you are crossing a river on a remote track or dealing with unexpected flooding after heavy rain, that extra height makes a real difference.

But deep water is only part of the picture. For most owners, the bigger day-to-day benefit is cleaner air. When you are driving on dusty trails, following road trains on outback highways, or working around construction sites and quarries, the air at bumper height is full of fine dust and dirt. Your factory air filters have to work overtime to keep that out of the engine, and they get clogged faster as a result. A snorkel system draws air from above the roof where conditions are much cleaner, which means your filters last longer, your engine breathes more freely and maintenance costs drop over time.

There are also performance benefits worth considering. Cleaner, cooler air from a higher intake point can support better engine performance and more efficient combustion. While a snorkel alone will not transform your vehicle, many owners notice improvements in fuel efficiency, particularly on long highway drives and extended off road trips where the engine is working hard in dusty conditions. For both commercial and recreational use, a snorkel is one of those upgrades that quietly pays for itself.

It is not a cosmetic accessory. Automotive snorkels are a genuine engine protection upgrade that keeps your vehicle running better for longer and extends its capabilities in conditions where the factory intake simply is not up to the job.

Choosing the Right Snorkel

Every snorkel in our range is manufactured for a specific vehicle, so the most important step is making sure you match the kit to your exact make, model and year range. Snorkels are not universal products. Each one is shaped to follow the contours of a particular guard and A-pillar, with inlet positioning and hose routing designed around that vehicle’s engine bay layout.

Most snorkel kits use a forward facing intake head (commonly called an air ram) at the top of the snorkel body. This design captures increased airflow while driving and directs it down into the intake system, providing a steady supply of clean air even at highway speeds. The forward facing intake also helps in conditions like deep snow or heavy rain where you want to minimise the chance of moisture or debris being drawn into the snorkel.

One thing to keep in mind is that snorkel installation is not a simple bolt-on job like fitting a nudge bar or a set of side steps. Most kits require cutting a hole in the front guard panel to route the intake ducting through to the engine bay. Each kit comes with a template and all the fittings you need, but if you have not done this kind of work before, it is worth having an experienced workshop handle the install to make sure everything is sealed properly and positioned correctly. A poorly sealed snorkel system can actually do more harm than good by allowing water ingress at the join points, so getting the installation right is essential.

It is also worth thinking about how a snorkel interacts with other accessories on your vehicle. If you are running a canopy, roof rack or awning on the same side as the snorkel, you want to make sure nothing is blocking airflow or creating clearance issues. The snorkels we stock are designed to work alongside common aftermarket setups, but checking compatibility before you buy saves headaches down the track.

Models We Stock

Toyota dominates our snorkel range, which makes sense given how many Hilux and LandCruiser models are out there doing hard work across Australia.

For the Toyota Hilux, we stock kits going all the way back to the 1997-2005 generation, through the 2005-2015 models, the 2015-2020 facelift, and up to the current N80 body for 2021-2025. The newer N80 kits are available in both narrow body and wide body (Rogue/SR5) variants, so make sure you check which body style matches your vehicle before ordering. You can explore our full Toyota Hilux accessories range for other upgrades to pair with your snorkel.

The Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series is just as well covered. We have kits for the 1984-1999 model, 1985-2007 (available in both split type and complete configurations), 2007-2018, and the latest 2024 onwards facelift. The 79 Series is one of the most popular platforms for snorkel fitment in Australia, and for good reason. These vehicles spend a huge amount of time in remote, dusty conditions where a raised intake is not just nice to have but essential. Check out the full LandCruiser 79 accessories page for more.

For Ford Ranger owners, we currently stock snorkel kits for the PX (2011-2015) and PXII (2016-2018) models. The Isuzu D-MAX is covered from 2007 through to 2020 across two generation splits, and the Mitsubishi Triton ML and MN (2006 onwards) has a kit available as well.

The Suzuki Jimny JB74 (2018 onwards) rounds out the range. The Jimny has developed a strong following among off road enthusiasts, and a snorkel is one of the first upgrades most owners look at given the vehicle’s capability on tracks and trails. Whether you are using it for weekend off road adventures or as a capable daily driver that handles rough conditions, the snorkel helps protect the engine and enhance reliability.

Installation and Delivery

As mentioned above, snorkel installation involves cutting into the front guard, so it is a step up from most other bolt-on accessories. Every kit in our range includes a cutting template, mounting hardware and all the ducting and fittings you need. If you are comfortable with this type of work and have the right tools, it is a manageable DIY job. If not, any workshop that handles off road accessories will be able to get it done for you without issues.

Once fitted, a snorkel system is essentially maintenance-free. There are no moving parts and nothing that needs regular adjustment. Just make sure the seals stay intact and the intake head is clear of obstructions, and the system will do its job for years without affecting performance or requiring attention.

All snorkel kits ship Australia-wide with free delivery to major metro postcodes. Browse the range above, find the right snorkel for your vehicle, and get your intake sorted.
